Perplexity introduced SPACE, a sandbox platform built to run its Computer agent product, on July 15, 2026. SPACE creates ephemeral Firecracker microVM sandboxes wrapped in sessions that can be paused, resumed or forked, with rolling snapshots of live memory and files taken as often as every minute and retained for up to a week, so a paused task can resume later. Credentials are injected from outside the sandbox only at the moment of use and outbound traffic is filtered at the node level, across a Control Plane, node-level services and an in-sandbox Space Daemon. Enterprise customers can bring their own encryption keys, and revoking a key blocks new sandboxes from booting; on-prem and fully offline deployment are supported. Perplexity says it built SPACE in 10 weeks, has run it internally for two months, and in the past week handled millions of sandbox creations and tens of millions of reconnects.
