Apple introduced two new Mac processors: the M6 in the Mac mini, its first built on a 2-nanometer manufacturing process, and the M5 Ultra in the Mac Studio, which joins four chip dies into one. The M5 Ultra supports up to 512GB of shared memory, enough to run very large AI models locally rather than in the cloud. All performance figures come from Apple's own August 2026 testing.

What changed

The previous top desktop chip, M3 Ultra, offered lower memory bandwidth and no Neural Accelerators in its GPU cores.
