Incident2026-10-13

A Saudi national working as an OpenAI engineer was arrested. He is accused of installing a hidden recording device in an executive conference room. The device was found on September 30 inside a USB port on a television. It had been placed there on September 28 and its contents were encrypted. CCTV showed him near the room multiple times without permission. Meetings there involved highly confidential technical and strategic information. He had earlier queried a productivity tool about OpenAI’s building and meeting details. A chatbot account linked to his spouse asked how to build and hide a recording device. He was seen checking behind the television on October 5. A second recording device was found in his unattended bag the same day. He faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
