Nvidia reported near-record quarterly profit and is directing much of that cash back into the companies and data centres that buy its chips, taking on the role of investor and lender as well as supplier. It is also reported to be buying Hugging Face, a widely used hub for sharing open AI models. Critics note the arrangement is circular, since Nvidia is helping finance the demand for its own hardware, while OpenAI, Google, Amazon and Microsoft build in-house chips to depend on it less.
