Anthropic’s biolab used Claude to find a novel enzyme system. It ran nearly 950 Claude agents for 21 hours. The agents processed 210 million tokens before spotting the pattern. The system was found in bacteriophages. Anthropic says human input was limited to the initial prompt and lab work. It is still working to understand what the enzyme system does. Anthropic compared the discovery to Crispr. The company shared the findings early to show Claude’s capabilities. It aims to attract more scientists to its lab. The discovery may have no practical applications yet.
