US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the Trump administration now trusts Anthropic. Asked directly about CEO Dario Amodei, he said "We trust Anthropic" and that the company had done what was asked. The remarks came in an interview at the G20 Innovation Ministerial in North Carolina. Anthropic co-founder Tom Brown has taken a larger role in dealings with the White House. Lutnick introduced Brown to a room of G20 ministers this week. Brown praised Trump's recent post backing data centres and noted Anthropic's support for a ratepayer pledge. Earlier this year the clash led to export controls on Anthropic's most advanced models. A federal judge in August struck down the Pentagon's blacklisting of the company. Anthropic is still contesting a separate Pentagon designation in the D.C. Circuit.
What changed
Anthropic faced export controls and a Pentagon supply-chain risk label after clashing with the administration.
