Release2026-10-28

Tesla started early production of its Optimus humanoid robot in Fremont, California. The line can make 1 million units per year at full capacity. Customer shipments are planned for next year. Early buyers will use Optimus for dangerous or repetitive industrial tasks. Tesla aims to reach full production rate in a year or more. It will build an Optimus Academy of 10,000 to 20,000 robots for training. The robots will learn tasks through self-play to improve actions. Tesla’s AI5 chip will power Optimus starting in April. A marketing video will show Optimus performing non-preprogrammed tasks soon.
