Release2026-07-23

OpenAI released three education plugins for ChatGPT Work and Codex on August 4, 2026, covering K–12 educators, college educators, and college students. A plugin bundles apps, role-specific skills, instructions and workflows so users need not build complex prompts; the packages connect to documents, course materials, calendars and other approved apps. The K–12 Educator plugin integrates with Learning Commons to align materials to local academic standards. Availability is limited to ChatGPT Edu and ChatGPT for Teachers district deployments. OpenAI also said more than 200 million 18–24 year olds use ChatGPT weekly, that even advanced student users invoke capabilities roughly 90–99% less than power users, and announced the OpenAI Student Collective, Walton Family Foundation workshops for 1,600+ K–12 staff across eight US cities, an Estonian deployment reaching 20,000 students and 4,600 teachers, and 12 months of free Pro-level access for eligible academic researchers.
