GitHub will deprecate Claude Opus 4.8, Claude Opus 5, and GPT-5.6 Terra on 16 November 2026. These models will leave all GitHub Copilot experiences. Suggested replacements are Claude Opus 5.5, GPT-6.1 Sol, or GPT-6 Luna. Annual individual subscribers keep Claude Opus 4.8. Default model enablement auto-enables replacements for Enterprise and Business unless disabled. Admins can enable alternatives via Copilot settings. Users see new models in the Copilot Chat selector once enabled. No action is needed to remove deprecated models. Enterprise customers can contact their account team for support.

Using newer models like Claude Opus 5.5, GPT-6.1 Sol, or GPT-6 Luna in GitHub Copilot.
