Medius CFO Chris Wilmot warns finance teams against ignoring minor expense fraud. A Medius survey found 87% of senior finance professionals ignored suspected fraudulent claims. The report calls such minor dishonesty 'shallowfakes'. Wilmot says even small fraud normalises bad behaviour. He argues unchallenged claims encourage others to do the same. The survey also found 93% fear AI-generated fraud in the next year. U.S. firms lose about $168,000 annually to invoice fraud on average. 74% of respondents said minor workplace fraud is common. 67% would likely submit minor dishonest claims if coworkers did. Wilmot says small frauds can add up over time. The figures come from Medius’ 2026 Financial Census.
