Bloomberg reported on July 14, 2026 that OpenAI's first consumer hardware product is planned to be a mobile, screen-free smart speaker positioned as a home computer for the AI era, citing people familiar with the project who were not authorized to discuss it. The device, still in development and unannounced, is intended to act as a humanlike AI companion living in the home, controlling smart-home appliances, playing media, answering questions, responding to messages and drawing on ChatGPT's capabilities. Bloomberg later reported, on August 6, 2026, that the device is a doughnut-shaped speaker priced above $300.
