Hugging Face released Carbon-X, an AI model for DNA analysis and generation. It lets researchers ask questions in plain language and get predictions. The model can also generate new DNA sequences for gene therapy development. Carbon-X was trained on human, mammal, plant and fungi DNA. It runs on a researcher’s own computer to avoid sharing sensitive data. Viruses were excluded from its training data to prevent misuse. Hugging Face built it on the Qwen3-14B language model. The model is open-source. Hugging Face worked with labs in Italy and China on the project. It aims to reduce dependence on major AI labs for biology research.
What it unlocks
Researchers can now analyze and generate DNA sequences using plain language queries.
