Leading Chinese mathematicians launched an alliance in Beijing to integrate AI into mathematical research. The Yau Laboratory Alliance for Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence is led by Fields medallist Shing-Tung Yau. It unites eight leading institutions. The alliance aims to create a network of over 1,000 scientists. It will develop AI models tailored for mathematics. It will use AI to generate conjectures and formalise proofs. It will build systems with interpretable reasoning. Yau warned China lags behind the US in using AI for frontier science.
