Meta partnered with five US universities to accelerate medical and scientific research. The universities are Caltech, Ohio State, Louisiana State, Indiana University, and UTHealth Houston. Meta is providing $2 million in grants and access to its latest models. Projects include monitoring infant tracheostomy tubes using computer vision. Another project develops conversational AI for dementia care. A third aims to predict heart failure risk using CT scans and medical records. Meta’s open-weight SAM models are being tested for tracking in healthcare. The partnerships cover medicine, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, and mathematics. Meta will share more as projects progress.
