Release2026-10-01

Google DeepMind released SynthID, a tool to watermark AI-generated content. It embeds invisible digital watermarks in images, video, audio and text. The watermarks survive cropping, filters, compression and other edits. Users can check for SynthID watermarks by uploading content to Gemini. A separate SynthID Detector portal also verifies watermarked content. The portal is currently in early testing with journalists and media professionals. SynthID covers Google’s consumer generative AI products. It does not affect the quality of the output.
