Anthropic merged the memory used by Claude's chat app and its Cowork agent, so details from one are available in the other. It is on by default for consumers on the Free, Pro and Max plans, and Claude now saves topics during a conversation rather than only at the end. Team and Enterprise accounts stay off until an administrator enables it, and categories such as health, religion and politics are stored only if a user opts in.

Chat and Cowork kept separate memories, and memory was written only after a conversation ended.
