A real edition, written for: Hotel Operations Manager

The one thing

Could always-on Dots handle your most repetitive guest queries this quarter?

Market01

NVIDIA to buy Hugging Face for $12.93B

NVIDIA has agreed to acquire Hugging Face, the open model sharing platform. Chief executive Jensen Huang announced the deal on NVIDIA's blog. He put the price at just under $13 billion. NVIDIA says Hugging Face will stay open to the whole AI industry. Developers will keep their choice of models, frameworks, clouds and chips. NVIDIA compute will not be required to build or deploy through the platform. Hugging Face will continue to support open source and open weight models from all builders. NVIDIA says its infrastructure and engineering can improve reliability, safety, model evaluation and deployment. The Hugging Face team and its brand will remain. No closing date or regulatory timeline was given.

Why it matters for you

Hugging Face hosts models many hotel tools depend on. A change in ownership affects their roadmap and reliability.

  • NVIDIA pledges to keep Hugging Face open and neutral
  • Your vendors may still need to review their dependencies
  • No immediate change to access or pricing announced

Release02

OpenAI DevDay: Dots and faster models

OpenAI announced over twenty updates at DevDay 2026. It introduced Dots as always-on agents for ongoing tasks. GPT-6.1 Sol launched with near-Astra performance at one-fifth the token cost. Ultrafast mode offers up to eight times faster token generation in Codex. Private Intelligence now supports zero data retention with private safety processing. Codex can now run in the cloud or via a refreshed CLI with voice control. Code Review in ChatGPT desktop app enables automated and manual reviews. Codex Security Cloud scans repositories and prepares fixes in the cloud. Decisions API entered limited preview for real-time classification. Agents API now supports computer use for software interaction. Bedrock Managed Agents brings OpenAI agents to AWS. Plugin extensions allow sidebar integration in ChatGPT. Improved plugin creation and discovery tools were released.

Why it matters for you

Dots are always-on agents that could handle guest requests or ops tasks without constant oversight.

  • Dots run 24/7 and learn preferences over time
  • They connect to 4,000+ apps via plugins
  • Pro or Business Premium plan required for access

Paste this into your AI tool

Context: You are a hotel front desk assistant. You answer guest questions about amenities, check-in/out times, and local recommendations.
Task: Respond to guest queries using only the hotel’s official information.
Constraints:
- Never invent details not in the provided info
- If unsure, say you’ll check and get back to them
I'll paste: [hotel’s official guest FAQ and local guide]
Release03

Dots launch: always-on assistants

OpenAI launched Dots, always-on AI assistants that work without constant direction. They run on GPT-6 Astra with their own cloud computer. Dots connect to over 4,000 apps via plugins. They learn user preferences and work 24/7 on tasks. Users can inspect a dot’s work on its cloud computer. Dots can also use a user’s laptop with permission. They message progress or questions in ChatGPT, Slack, or Teams. Built-in safeguards include read-only tools for background work. Users control access, permissions, and approvals via Custom Rules. Specialist dots for organizations have their own identity and access. These are in focused enterprise pilots. Microsoft Agent 365 will integrate specialist dots. Dots roll out to Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets.

Why it matters for you

Dots can message progress or questions in Slack or Teams, useful for coordinating housekeeping or maintenance.

  • They work without constant direction
  • Built-in safeguards include read-only tools for background work
  • Enterprise beta requires admin enablement

Incident04

AI agents used in mass cyberattack

An unknown attacker used hundreds of AI agents to break into at least 395 organizations. The agents exploited two PaperCut NG/MF flaws patched only days earlier. GreyNoise, a threat-intelligence firm, traced the campaign to a single internet address on 31 August. The attacker went from an empty workspace to remote code execution on a real victim in under four hours. One American high school fell from first access to full domain control in seven minutes. Schools were the hardest-hit sector, and the US and UK had the most victims. The attacker told the agents to skip 28 countries, including Russia and China. Some agents ignored that list and attacked those countries anyway. GreyNoise says the operator is likely Russian-speaking, and cannot explain the deviation. The agents ran on OpenAI's Codex harness with a DeepSeek model.

Why it matters for you

Attackers used AI agents to exploit software flaws at scale. Your guest systems or booking platforms could be targets.

  • Hundreds of agents breached 395 organizations in one campaign
  • Schools were the hardest-hit sector, but hotels store similar guest data
  • Agents exploited patched flaws within days of disclosure

Incident05

AI agents breached network in under 10 hours

An attacker used AI agents to breach an enterprise network in under ten hours. Palo Alto Networks' Unit 42 investigated the intrusion and published its findings. The attacker set the objectives while agents mapped the network, scraped code repositories and took root credentials. They also triggered unauthorised build pipelines and stole cloud keys. With those keys they ran the victim's own AI services as attack infrastructure. No zero-day exploit or elite tradecraft was involved, only speed. Branch-protection controls blocked an attempt to plant backdoors in infrastructure code. The agent was also told to leave an 80-page audit of the company's weaknesses. Unit 42 advises automated containment playbooks, inventories of every model endpoint and API key, and mandatory multi-party code review. It expects more attackers to adopt agents.

Why it matters for you

A single agent mapped a network, scraped code and took root credentials in one workday.

  • No zero-day exploits were used, only speed
  • Agents ran the victim’s own AI services as attack infrastructure
  • Defenders advised automated containment playbooks

Build this

Every week, one small thing to build with AI in something you actually care about. No work in it. Five minutes to set up, and worth keeping if it earns a second run.

A shortlist of five language-learning resources you did not know existed, with the weakest one explained.

Five minutes to set up

Context: I am learning [language] and want to find new resources.
Task: Find five lesser-known resources (apps, YouTube channels, podcasts, or communities) for learning [language]. Rank them by usefulness for a beginner. Defend your last-place choice with one specific reason.
Output: The ranked list with a one-sentence defense of the last entry.
  1. Have the language and your current level ready
  2. Run this in ChatGPT so it can search the open web
  3. Check that each resource is still active and free or low-cost
  4. Re-run with a different language or level to get a fresh list

Yours arrives Thursday.
